Road Trip South

Wednesday, 5 women on a shopping mission set out for San Antonio. We had our stops mapped out, with credit cards handy we arrived at our first stop, 911. Great store and lots of fun stuff. We left some of our $ there and went to Scrapbook Cottage. Super store and really friendly. This time we remembered to get our cameras out and took some fun pictures. Did some damage with the new products there and we had a blast using the die cut machine. Hunger had us so we pulled into a Sonic and enjoyed burgers, one nameless person enjoyed the onion rings and lots of ketchup! Feeling better we went to Stamp Antonio and found some goodies. Our last stop of the day was Scrapbook Heaven, my least favorite store, not very friendly and not a lot of new product. On a road trip with 5 women it is funny the little things you learn about people you think you know. Janet has never been to a Whataburger, she does not know what she is missing not having had Whataburger ketchup!

The Wallet and Elgin Police Dept.

Yesterday we took a short road trip to Elgin. This was the final step in the wallet that was lost Jan. 19. T was riding the school bus coming from a soccer tournament in Katy. The team stopped at a convenience store in or around Elgin. She went to the bathroom, with her wallet in her warm up pants pocket. This is not where it is supposed to, revert back to many discussions on where to keep her wallet, so it slipped out of her pants. When she arrived at school she calls crying, hating to tell us about the lost wallet. We cancelled the debit card, replaced the drivers license and life went on for 2 weeks. Then she does it again...except this time we thought the new wallet and car keys were stolen out of her soccer bag (again not where they should be) during a soccer game. Same song second verse, replaced everything again. Last week the Elgin police department calls and said the wallet had been turned in, everything in tact, adding to that good news, a girl on her soccer team found her 2nd wallet and contents and car keys in her soccer bag, where T had put them by mistake. Needless to say we have an abundance of wallets, drivers license and debit cards. Hopefully, lesson learned!

We took this time to eat Bar-B-Q in Elgin, yummy, and on the way home stopped at Coupland Dance Hall. This is the oldest dance hall in Texas and in is located in a small off the beaten path town. The manager let us in to take pictures and look around. We saw a man carving granite just down the street from the dance hall, they seemed to be just growing out of the ground.

We were about 20 miles from home and I was driving my little silver bug, look in my rearview mirror and see a DPS car with lights flashing. I pull over and sure enough it was me he was after. He asked me if I was in a hurry, I said no, I wan only going 70....turns out the speed limit was 50! He was impressed, I guess that I admitted I was going 70 and that I didn't see the speed limit sign, so I drove away with only a warning. What a nice day that turned out to be!

Soccer and Basketball

We spent this weekend with the grandkids and of course that involves some type of sporting event. First we went to Tuckers soccer scrimmage. He is always in motion and loves every sport. Off next to Keytons baskeball, thankfully it was inside, and his team won. I can't seem to manage to get a good action basketball shot. I admire my dil ability to get 3 active boys to 3 different sport activities in one day plus do a bake sale! So glad I only have one to get somewhere...oh wait she can drive!

Only on a Texas Road Trip

On our way to and from Red Oak we saw some fun things along the way.

West, Texas, an awesome Czech bakery. The line was out the doors, the bakery items are mouth-watering. This little store is probably the biggest thing in West, even the Dairy Queen next door is closed.

Italy, Texas,I think the biggest thing in this tiny town are the truck stops and the Shell convenience store on the opposite side of the interstate from the truck stop. This store has a Sonic and Bar-B-Q store inside along with a store full of Texas items for sale. Sunday this country band was playing and people were sitting on benches and standing outside their cars, tapping their feet while filling with gas. What a fun idea and great break in your drive.

This strange looking Catapillar stretches along I35. He is painted with boots and green grass. We wanted to see what was behind this Catapillar. There is a community called Dome Park, that has 15-20 very tiny dome shaped houses, that people live in or you can rent for a weekend getaway.Unique in design and certainly a change from your normal motels.

The spaceship was once a game store but now closed. It still attracts lots of glances when you pass by on IH 35. People were walking around this spaceship snapping pictures.

I love finding these odd and unique things along our road trips.
